A fence gate is an extremely important factor to consider when looking at all of the elements of a new fence. You can have the best looking fence in the neighbor hood installed but if the wrong type of fence gate is installed, or wrong color or size, it can make the fence look off-putting.
Your fence gate should somewhat match the look and feel of your fence. It doesn’t necessarily need to match the material however if you have a chain link fence, you probably don’t want a wood fence. On the other hand, we have installed wrought iron gates on wood fences which can look beautiful. We can offer up suggestions on the types of gates for your new fence.
A fence gate serves many different functions other than just for you to walk in and out of and there are many things to consider when deciding on your fence gate(s). One major consideration is how many fence gates do you need. Many Columbus, Ohio homeowners only think about the one fence gate on the side of their home to go in and out of however what about the back of the fence? Does your home back up to a wooded area or another part of your yard that is not fenced in that you need easy access to? Would you ever have a need to have a gate on both sides of your home for easier access to?
Another thing to think about is how big the gate needs to be. If you have a larger lawn and use a lawn mower with a wide deck, then you will want to ensure the gate is wide enough to allow for this. Or even if you have hired a lawn care company to mow for you, they often charge less if they can get their commercial mowers to the back. In addition, if you have a trailer or boat you want to get back their, this is always a consideration on the size of your fence gate.
